10 features you’ll love in Apple’s latest MacBook
Apple unveiled its latest laptop, a 12-inch Retina display MacBook, at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center on March 9.
The newest device comes bundled with a few pioneering features that redefine the future of laptops.
Here are 10 features that show how Apple’s MacBooks are going the mobile way.
- The thinnest device
At 13.1 mm, Apple’s latest 12-inch MacBook is considered the thinnest laptop device. It is 24 percent thinner than its predecessor, the MacBook Air, and weighs only 2 pounds (less than a kilogram).
- The Retina display
The laptop has a Retina Display with 2304×1440 ppi resolution. According to Apple, it consumes 30 % lesser energy than older displays.
- Battery capacity
Apple says that the new MacBook has 35 percent more battery capacity. It delivers all-day battery life with up to 9 hours of wireless web browsing and 10 hours of iTunes movie playback.
- Butterfly keyboard system
The MacBook features a new keyboard design that works on a “butterfly mechanism”, providing an improved typing experience. ‘The new keyboard is 34 percent thinner and four times more stable’ Apple says.
- Backlighting system
The keyboard has the latest backlighting system, with individual LED lights under each key delivering a crisp and responsive feel to typing.
- Force Touch trackpad
An all-new Force Touch trackpad features built-in force sensors that allow you to click anywhere and haptic feedback that provides a responsive and uniform feel. The trackpad features a new gesture called Force Click, which offers multiple functions such as pulling up the definition of a word, quickly seeing a map or glancing at a preview of a file.
- Minimal ports
The latest MacBook comes with only two ports: A single USB type-C connector and a headphone port, similar to mobile devices. The reversible USB-C connector is used to charge the laptop, to carry data and to send videos to the external display.
- No fan inside
Apple has dropped fans in the latest device; this has helped reduce the size significantly. Instead, the new laptop uses an energy efficient Intel Core M processor.
- Three colours
On the lines of the iPad and iPhone, the latest MacBook will come in three coloured versions: Silver, Space Gray and Gold.
- Memory and storage
The new MacBook has an 8 GB RAM and the entry-level model has a 256 GB hard disk. The base price of the laptop is $1,299, and shipping begins from April 10.
