Come Friendship Day and we love having a movie marathon with our gang, singing songs about never-ending friendship and watching popular sitcoms like FRIENDS all day long. While old Bollywood movies like Dosti, Yaarana and Sholay celebrated true friendship, here are some recent films, that showed us how friends will go to any extent and even be a part of your bizarre obsessions, just to see you happy!

Dil Chahta Hai

We have all planned an annual trip to Goa with our friends after watching this movie! From lying to parents when a friend is busy spending time with his firang lady love, to standing by each other in tough times even through major disagreements, this movie changed Bollywood friendships forever.

Haven’t we all spent days and months in our college even after graduating! This movie gave us a lot of relatable moments on the campus and brought out the patriot in all of us when a group of friends fought the government and even laid down their lives for a friend.

Our friends are always there to show us the mirror when we are fighting a constant battle between the head and the heart. But then there are some, who don’t support your childhood crushes and obsessions, but still go to any extent to be a part of it just to see you happy. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

What use are friends if they can’t take a beating or two from your girlfriend’s father! Humpty’s friends Shonty and Poplu get beaten up again and again by Kavya’s father’s goons. And they still keep going back to get beaten up, only to make sure that their friend Humpty gets his lady love Kavya.

3 Idiots

From missing out on exams to help a friend’s father, to kidnapping a bride-to-be, faking a heart attack for an emergency landing of a plane and threatening to expose a scam – Rancho, Farhan and Raju showed us how nothing is more important than the friends in your life. It is no wonder that the movie went on to become a cult classic.

Queen

This movie proves how you will find true friends in the most unexpected corners of the world. While on one hand Vijaylakshmi listened to Rani’s drunk rant at a party, she also taught her to be an independent, confident woman. At the same time, Oleksander-Taka-Tim do everything to make her feel comfortable and happy when they come to know that she is going through a personal tragedy.

Fukrey

These dream-chasing college friends run into hefty losses and even get on the wrong foot with a local gangster – all for friendship (and of course, making easy money). By the end of the movie,the four worthless characters show us that nothing matters more than your friends and if you have them beside you, you can get past any bad day.

Now here’s a story about Kabir, Arjun and Imran, who come from different backgrounds, but stand by each other to fight their worst fears and inner demons together. They even talk about how fighting with your friends over love is just not worth it, and how you should only get married when you are ready for it. Their unforgettable road trip also inspired us to have a bachelor’s party before getting married!
