June 12 is celebrated across the world as International Day Against Child Labour.

Although the global number of child labourers has declined by a third since 2000, the situation in Asia, and specifically in India, still looks grim.

A CRY report based on the 2011 census estimates that India has 10.12 million child labourers aged between 5 to 14 years. More disturbingly, 1.2 million of them work in hazardous occupations.

The stats make it clear that Child labour is an issue that needs to be looked at more seriously.
