Well, there are some iconic movies and then there are dog movies. If you consider that your dog was the best thing that ever happened to you, then these movies stay in your heart furreverrr. So here are the dog movies, some of which you may have watched, some you may after reading this post.

1. Hachi: A Dog’s Tale

Based on a real-life story, it tells a story of how an abandoned pup gets adopted by a professor and becomes an indispensable part of his life. It’s an everyday ritual for the dog who waits for his master at the railways station. And, one day the professor doesn’t return but the dog continues to wait. The wait that will leave everybody teary-eyed.

2. Marley and Me

One of the most popular movies, revolves around the story of an uncontrollable funny Golden Retriever and how he becomes an indispensable part of the family over the years.

3. Bolt

An animation movie about a dog who is a star on a hit television series. He believes that he has been bestowed with superpowers and one day when he thinks his co-star human, Penny, has been kidnapped, he sets out on a cross-country journey to rescue her, but instead discovers his real ‘doggy’ self. 4. Beethoven

The story about a slobbery St. Bernard went on to spawn seven sequels, a television series as well as video game! ‘Beethoven’ is one of the classic dog-lover movies that speaks to people of every generation.  The story revolves around a family who adopts a dog inspite of the father’s resistance. While the dog helps the family in numerous instances, he also falls into trouble many a times inviting the father’s furore. And, one day local veterinarian who is involved in unethical and deadly animal experimentation tricks George and the family. After that it’s a roller coaster ride with a super happy ending.

5. 101 Dalmatians

You begin to hate Cruella De Vil more than any person you have ever hated in your life. And, when she suffers at the paws of Dalmatians at the end, you are ecstatic and clapping your hands in joy. Watch which ever version you like – the animated one or the one featuring Glenn Close as Cruella. The sight of 101 Dalmatians is sure to make you go “aweeeee…….”

6. Old Yeller

One of the tragic dog movies ever! A dog wins a family’s love, gets adopted. But, one day the dog’s owner shows up. (Heart skips a beat) But, seeing how the family has been attached to the dog, the owner decides to let them keep him. However, tragedy strikes for the one last time.

7. Lassie

Lassie is a Hollywood star – The movie has been remade 9 times with similar titles.  The story of Lassie, a collie, is the story of a dog who braves the odds to find and reunite with its real family.  The movie shows how dogs are truly the best friends that anyone can have.

 8. Turner and Hooch

Well, if a dog steal limelight from Tom Hanks, then there’s no way you can miss this movie. A murder mystery, an intelligent Bordeaux Mastiff who is also the only witness to the case, and a cop, no way you can go wrong with such an equation. Entertaining to the very last bit.

9. Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

Two dogs and a cat have to trek across the country to make it to home. A comedy drama with lots of unexpected surprises will leave you glued to your couch. The trio will surely win your hearts.

10. Eight Below

A pack of sledge dogs who get caught in an Antarctic storm and the movie charts how the dogs do brave the harsh climate, trying their best to survive in the wild. This adventure drama also stars Paul Walker. Will they survive or bite the snow (read: dust)? Watch the movie to know about it. But warning you, you will have tough time withholding your tears.

11. Lady and the Tramp

This movie is the animal version of a rich beautiful girl finding love in a very ordinary looking man – all because she realizes that he truly loves him. A classic that deals with the romantic adventures of a female American Cocker Spaniel named Lady belonging to a refined, upper-middle-class family, and a male stray mutt named Tramp.

12. A dog named Christmas

Based on a best-selling book, the story revolves around a protagonist who has a learning disability and a dog that he adopts from a shelter. The movie tells us why one should consider adopting a dog from a shelter than buying one from a breeder.

13. Bingo

Bingo, a circus dog, runs away from his master who plans to kill him. Out in the wild, he saves a young boy Chuckie.  The duo happen to spend a lot of time together and become best friends. In a freak incident, Bingo saves Chuckie but gets blown away by a bomb. This movie is a definite emotional roller coaster.

14. Because of Winn Dixie

A big burly dog is found in the Winn Dixie supermarket and gets adopted by the girl who sees him. Winn-Dixie is extremely friendly and that helps her make new friends in a town that she has just moved to. In the process, she learns more about relationships, and everyday realities. The story helps to understand more about forgiveness, loyalty, and friendships. All is well, until there is a thunderstorm, and a scared Winn-Dixie runs away. Will they ever find him?

15. My Dog Tulip

An animated dog film about the relationship between a lonely man and a German shepherd that he adopts. It was the first animated feature ever to be entirely drawn and painted utilizing paperless computer technology.
