Jhanvi Behal, a 15-year-old girl from Ludhiana, who challenged Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar to an open debate on freedom of expression, claimed to have received threats on social media.

The 15-year-old activist had challenged Kanhaiya to an open debate on freedom of expression after Kanhaiya targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech at JNU a few days after he had received the bail.

President of the Raksha Jyoti Foundation Ashwani Behal in a letter to the director general of the Punjab Police requested security for Jhanvi.

The letter said that her works for the betterment of society has put her life in danger. An excerpt from the letter as reported by ANI said, “She is a young woman who raised her voice against the person who is booked under various acts under IPC and she is continuously working for social upliftment of our society. This caused danger to her life and many anti-social elements are willing to harm her.”

The teenager who admires Narendra Modi’s leadership challenged Kanhaiya because she felt that the JNUSU president had spoken ill about Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech.

Behal wanted to prove Kanhaiya’s statements wrong and talk about the real work that Modi had done for the country. Behal had earlier worked on several issues including the awareness of  feticide and even actively participated in Narendra Modi’s pet project Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Narendra Modi had also sent her a letter of appreciation and a copy of Swami Vivekanda’s biography to congratulate her for her work on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and to motivate her to do more such works.
