India’s first law minister and the principal architect of the Indian constitution, Dr Ambedkar was one of modern India’s foremost social reformers. He was instrumental in eradicating untouchability and earning equal rights for India’s Dalits.

Thanks to his fierce battle against the Indian caste system, his lifelong campaign for women’s rights and his priceless contribution towards the labour movement, Ambedkar is widely regarded as one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century.

 President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, paid their respects to Dr. Ambedkar,on his 60th death anniversary, in the capital.
