200 foreign students who were overstaying in Bengaluru, past their visa expiration have been deported and 1,156 more such foreign students will soon follow,  said Home Minister G. Parameshwara.

Previously, the police had said that they would deport 1500 students who were staying in the country without a valid visa by July end. The move was initiated after  African nationals were caught in narcotics drug trade.

Also the recent incident of an African woman causing a ruckus has made the police and the Home Department take serious note of overstaying foreign nationals.

According to News 18 report, activists claim that the foreign students are victims of bureaucracy rather than criminals. Many of them are forced to stay because, either their visas are not extended by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) or their colleges refuse to issue bona fide certificates due to several reasons.
