86-year-old temple elephant in Kerala could soon be in Guinness Records
Dakshayani is 86-years-old and probably the oldest of elephants alive on Earth.
The octogenarian pachyderm from the capital of Kerala – Thiruvananthapuram – is all set to enter the Guinness Records as the world’s oldest living elephant.
Reportedly the elephant is owned by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) which controls major temples in the state government including the shrine Lord Ayyappa in Sabarimala.
Reports suggest that the TDB has sought for Dakshayani entry into Guinness Records for being the world’ oldest living elephant.
Elephants being an integral part of Kerala’s heritage and culture, there are even fan clubs for some of the domesticated temple-elephants in the state.

Honoring Dakshayani Kerala Circle Postal Service would issue special postal covers.
TDB owns 33 elephants.
