A Chennai girl’s horrifying experience with an Uber driver goes viral. Glad she’s safe!

Just months after the shocking incident of an Uber driver raping a 27-year-old woman in Delhi, the private cab company is now being thrashed for its services in Chennai.

In an open post on Facebook, Chennai resident Nandini Nayar shares her horrifying experience with Uber driver Kasinathan. According to Nandini, the driver refused to comply with any of her instructions and instead tried ‘cancelling the trip’ even while she was in the car.

Here’s Nandini’s first hand account:

LADIES, BEWARE OF UBER.

Last night a friend booked an Uber cab for me to go home because my app wasn’t working.

From the start, refusing to comply with any instructions — wouldn’t let me put the window down (which is ominous in itself), then he wouldn’t take the route that I asked him to.

AND THEN he started to turn onto a deserted dark little lane. I immediately told him to turn the car around and go back to the main road. He refused, claiming it was a short cut. I continued to tell him to stop and turn around. He ignored me and just kept driving.

When my protests started getting louder, and probably more frantic, he stopped the car in the middle of that random lane and told me to get out of his car. I refused, started to put the window down and insisted that he go back to the main road otherwise I would scream. He got more and more abusive, but did what I said.

I got on the phone with my friend to tell him what was going on, when suddenly I noticed the cab driver had picked up his phone and was trying to press “Cancel trip” WHILE I WAS STILL IN THE CAR, and while it was still moving. As soon as I asked him what he was trying to do, he stopped doing that. Had he gone through with it, Uber support would not even know that a passenger was in the car.

This is NOT the first time something like this has happened in an Uber cab, where the cab driver tried pressing “Cancel trip” while I was alone in the car at night.

In this particular case, I could not even press SOS on the Uber app because it had not been booked from my phone.

ALSO. Watch out, because once a trip has been ended, Uber no longer provides you with details about the cab number — just the name of the driver and the kind of car he’s driving. A brilliant escape route for #Uber.

(For what it’s worth, this is the cab guy: )

UPDATE: Uber Chennai has said that they are in the process of taking serious action against the driver. So hopefully this particular case at least, will be handled.
