Chitra and Mohan, a couple from Chennai, are recently blessed with a baby girl. They named her ‘Yunus’. After all, what better way to say ‘thanks’ to the person who saved your life than naming your child after the braveheart!

At a time when intolerance is resonating loud across the subcontinent, a Hindu couple naming their child so, certainly takes one aback.

Here’s the full story that will definitely restore your faith in humanity:

Chitra and Mohan live in Urapakkam in Chennai that was inundated during the flood. Like those Samaritans who were out on the roads helping people during the rains, a guy named Mohamed Yunus was also doing his bit best. Through news channels and instant messaging apps he got to know about people stranded and crying for help in that area. He along with his friends borrowed boats, even when boatmen were reluctant. It took them four hours to find a vehicle to carry the boats to Urapakkam. He braved all odds. He also offered shelter to people at two of his flats.

He told it to media: “There was no power and people were hanging on trees and building slabs calling out for help. Near a petrol outlet there, we found two families in neck-deep water. Only after we got them into the boat we knew one among them was pregnant and her due date was just two days away. She later gave her name as Chitra. She was under panic, especially after the boat almost toppled when it hit an uprooted tree. I told a story that conveyed a message that money is nothing but a piece of paper until it helps someone.”

Chitra was safely taken to a hospital where she delivered a baby girl. And they named her after the braveheart who saved their lives. This is what Mohan wrote to Mohamed Yunus after their baby was born:
