21 patients reportedly died in Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad as a result of power cuts. The blackout reportedly happened on July 22.

Some of the patients who died were on life support systems such as ventilators and incubators. According to Professor CV Chalam, the superintendent in charge of Gandhi Hospital, investigations are to be carried out determine if any of the deaths are directly or indirectly connected to the blackout.

Allegedly, senior doctor of the hospital performed emergency surgery on a 28-year old man with an infected intestine, only using a phone torch. Patients who were on ventilator support were given oxygen through ambu-bags. However, there are concerns that the attendants might have administered the gas incorrectly.

The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Chairman and Managing Director G Raghuma Reddy said that the blackout was due to an internal problem in the electrical room of the hospital.
