The 56-year-old actor was found a guilty by a special TADA court in the 1993 Mumbai blast incident. Though the Supreme Court had sentenced Dutt for a five year term in jail, he was given a remission of eight months and 16 days on account of his ‘good behavior’ as the inmate of Yerwada.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, a social worker from Mumbai has reportedly moved a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Bombay high court against the early release of Dutt. As per reports, the PIL highlighted unequal treatment of prisoners with regard to remission offered to the convicted actor.

The PIL was filed by Pradeep Bhalekar, chairman of Samijik Karyakarta Saurakhan Samiti. It pointed out to the court that there are 27,740 prisoners in the jails of Maharashtra who need to be granted freedom on the same account.
