After Award Waapasi, it is time for Paisa Waapasi

Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone

In a time when ‘Award Waapasi’ made headlines for months to an end, here’s some refreshing news. Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone seem to have returned Rs. 15 crore to the producers of Tamasha. Although the film received critical acclaim, the sizzling onscreen couple failed to garner enough Box Office collections. Reports suggest that Ranbir Kapoor has returned Rs 10 crore to the producers, while Deepika has also returned Rs 5 crores, so that the distributors of the film don’t suffer huge losses.

It is not just the cast of a film which is bearing the burden of losses incurred. Recently, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap also announced that he will repay the cost of production of Bombay Velvet to the producers. The film, which ran upto a budget of almost 90 crores, tanked at the Box Office. Anurag, along with his Phantom Productions co-founded by Vikramaditya Motwane, Madhu Mantena and Vikas Bahl have decided to gradually return the entire production cost to Fox Star Studios and distributors of Bombay Velvet by the end of this year.

Makers of the mega-movie Lingaa were also in for a rude shock when the film was bombed in Box Office. Actor Rajinikanth received the biggest blow of them all, as he was hounded by distributors to pay for the losses incurred and he repaid Rs 10 crore in order to compensate. Rajinikanth became the first Tamil actor to start the payback trend when he  reimbursed the financial losses following the failure of his home production Baba in 2002.
