After hailstorms, it’s snowing in Bangalore!

Well, no.

We wanted you to read, and what would make that happen but a nice click-baiting headline? After all, social issues do not get the coverage and attention they should.

The pictures you see here have been clicked by a concerned Bangalorean, Bishwajit Banik, near Varthur Lake. Dirty water saturated with chemicals is churning up toxic foam, so much so that it is now overflowing onto the streets.

Not only is this a health hazard for people, it is also devastating agriculture in the surrounding areas. According to this media report, the agricultural yield has fallen drastically to between 30 and 40%.

Bangalore’s Varthur Lake was once a fresh water lake. Now, thanks to the sewage that flows into it each day, it is polluted beyond recognition. Apathy from the powers that be has killed one of Bangalore’s natural water sources.

Spread the word, and let’s hope someone takes some action!
