Ambulance ferrying CPM Kannur district secretary, P Jayarajan who has been remanded in Kathirur Manoj murder case, met with an accident while being shifted him from Kozhikode medical college to Sree Chitra Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

The accused CPM leader was admitted to Kozhikode medical college following complications related to heart disease. He was advised by an expert panel to get better treatment and hence was referred to Sree Chitra Hospital.

The ambulance carrying Jayarajan left Kozhikode medical college yesterday night. It met with the accident in Thrissur during the wee hours of Wednesday.

Jayarajan was admitted to Amala hospital in Thrissur following the accident. Reports says that he did not suffer injuries in the accident and was admitted to hospital as he developed uneasiness following the incident.

According to the driver of the ambulance, vehicle lost control after one of its ‘tyre busted’. It is said that the ambulance rammed onto a railway protective barrier.

Meanwhile, police have started procedures to shift him to Sree Chitra at the earliest. Reportedly, police have decided to take him to the state capital via road.

However, CPM workers have voiced protest against the decision to shift him in ambulance. Citing security reasons, they demanded the police to shift him in train.

After Jayarajan surrendered before the court in Thalassery earlier this month, he was remanded to judicial custody. However, he was later shifted to Kozhiikode medical college hospital considering his ailing health.

The decision of medical college hospital authorities to shift Jayarajan in an ambulance  with a single driver alone drew flak.
