Andrew Strauss roasted on Twitter as ECB rules out Kevin Pietersen’s Ashes comeback

As cricket fans around the globe are well aware of, there is no love lost between Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Strauss.

KP, once English cricket’s poster boy, and Strauss, a former Test captain, were part of one of the most infamous feuds in cricket history in 2012, when KP lost his England spot for sending defamatory text messages referring to Strauss to a few South African cricketers.

Arguably England’s finest batsman in the modern era,  KP has since struggled to regain his spot in the Test team. Although he did make a brief comeback the following season, he was largely held responsible for England’s Ashes whitewash in 2013-14 and subsequently sacked.

However, the right-hander never really ruled out a comeback. Earlier this year, he pulled out of the IPL to play County cricket in order to improve his chances of making a return for the 2015 Ashes series.

It turned out to be a great move as he immediately found form with the bat, hitting a smashing 170 for Surrey in the season’s opener.

But his best show came against Leicestershire, against whom he scored an unbeaten 355 to record the 6th highest score in the championship’s history.

He couldn’t have chosen a better time to achieve the feat as soon after the day’s play, he met with newly appointed director of cricket Andrew Strauss and the ECB officials to discuss his future.

But in a shocking turn of events, Strauss told him that he will not play for England this summer, citing ‘massive trust issues’ between the two of them.

Strauss said KP’s inclusion would not be in the best interest of English cricket’s ‘short-term’ future, adding that ‘performance isn’t the only criteria’ for selection.

As expected, England fans were furious. So were many other famous cricketers and journalists who admire Kevin Pietersen. The reactions on Twitter were overwhelming and most of them blasted Strauss and ECB’s bizarre logic. Here are the notable ones.
