Andhra Pradesh’s state education minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Friday announced that English medium of instruction will be introduced in all government schools in the state.

During an interaction with the mediapersons in Rajampet, Kadapa, Rao said that the move is to take on the competition from the ever-increasing number of private English medium schools in the state

Rao added that a survey conducted by the state government revealed the fact that parents prefer to admit their children to private English medium schools over state-run government schools only to avail the English medium of instruction.

He said that despite the fact that the students are provided with the best teachers, free uniforms and midday meals, government-run schools lag behind. The AP government had conducted a survey to know the ground realities on the poor performance of government schools when compared to private English medium schools. He
hopes that the move will attract more children to the government schools in the state.

All government-run Anganvadi centres / nursery schools in AP will be converted into ‘Kindergarten Education Centres’ as a first step to introduce the English medium of instruction.

Telangana’s chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao had earlier last year announced that his government would introduce English medium of instruction in the state-owned schools from the pre-primary level itself. If the implications of the decisions of both the Telugu states are positive, expect to see jam-packed government school classrooms!
