Solar plane lands in Gujarat. Around the world, without a single drop of fuel!
History was made in Ahmedabad, on Tuesday (March 10). Solar Impulse 2, the world’s only solar-powered aircraft, landed in Gujarat’s capital to successfully complete its first sea leg.
An ambitious and maiden attempt to circumnavigate the globe by an aircraft without a single drop of fuel, Solar Impulse solely depends on the energy of the sun to go around the earth.
Solar Impulse took off from Abu Dhabi and landed in Ahmedabad after making a first stop over at Muscat, Oman.

After a couple of days rest, pilots Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg will then take off for Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
It plans to return to Abu Dhabi in five months after circling the globe.
The planned route per the Solar Impulse website is: Abu Dhabi to Muscat, Oman, then across the Arabian Sea to Varanasi, India.
Then Mandalay, Myanmar and Chongqing and Nanjing in China; across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii and then Phoenix, Arizona and New York.
And, finally across the Atlantic Ocean to either southern Europe or Morocco; and finally back to Abu Dhabi.
The Swiss pilots say their aim is to create awareness about replacing “old polluting technologies with clean and efficient technologies.”
