Sanjay Leela Bhansali likes the grand scale and the carefully constructed scene – whether it’s a gulal-coloured celebration or a sword fight. Going by the just-released teaser Bajirao Mastani promises to be no different.
Ranveer Singh, shorn of his long locks, plays the Peshwa king Bajirao, aiming an arrow here, striding to battle there. Deepika Padukone, cast as Mastani, his second wife, smoulders as she engages in fierce sword fights. Priyanka Chopra keeps her Bollywood glamour intact as Kashibai, the first wife of Bajirao.
The sets are grand, the action precisely choreographed and everyone looks picture perfect. Whether this spectacular production will make an emotional connection with the audience remains to be seen. The film releases in December 2015.
