International fastfood chains may be popping up everywhere and pizza a frequent go-to meal. Still, there’s no toppling the Masala Dosa from its hallowed place as Bangalore’s most-loved, anytime meal. We round up some of the best versions in the city:

MTR

This iconic restaurant near Lalbagh is justly famous for its masala dosa. It’s quite a small dosa, folded into a triangle and absolutely rich with ghee. Go early for a masala dosa breakfast and be prepared to wait. It runs out pretty quickly, too.

CTR

A majority of masala dosa aficionados vote CTR in Malleswaram as the place for the best masala dosa in town. We’d tend to agree. The masala is delish, the dosa is cooked just right and it’ simply hit-the-spot. Don’t look for frills at CTR, the dosa is what you’re there for.

Vidyarthi Bhavan

Time stands still at Vidyarthi Bhavan on Gandhi Bazaar Main Road which has been serving up its scrumptious dosas for 70 years and more. It’s cooked to a golden-brown crispness and has a vast number of fans. The efficient waiters who can carry a whole stack of masala dosa plates along the length of their arm are a familiar sight here.

Janatha Hotel

This old institution on 8th Cross Malleswaram, may have lost some of its earlier buzz, but locals swear by the masala dosa here. It’s a no-frills place, but the benne masala dosa is all that you want it to be.

Maiyas

Amongst the more recent arrivals on the scene, you can get a pretty good masala dosa at any of the Maiyas outlets across the city.

UpSouth

This isn’t your typical darshini, but they do a good job of the masala dosa. It is thinner and larger than the traditional Bangalore masala dosa, but tastes very good.
