It seems the record-breaking success of Baahubali has spurred in Kollywood heroes the desire to star in period films. Vijay realised this ambition with Puli, although the film didn’t quite roar at the box-office. Now, it’s been confirmed that Ajith’s next will be a historical film.

Filmmaker Vishnuvardhan, with whom Ajith has previously made Aarrambam, confirmed this on Twitter. The film is based on a story by the well-known writer Balakumaran and Vishnuvardhan is currently in the midst of working on the screenplay.
While there was speculation that it’s a film on the emperor, Rajaraja Chozhan, Balakumaran has said the Ajith project is not about the Thanjavur Periya Kovil or the life of Rajaraja Chozhan. “All I can confirm at this point is that it’s a film about the Chozha dynasty,” he said.
Balakumaran’s recent research has been for a book on Rajendra Chozhan. So, everyone’s guessing that Ajith will be playing this Chozha king in the movie.
Fans have till now only seen Ajith as romantic hero and, in recent times, as the action hero will see Thala in a whole new avatar in this film. Wonder how they’ll like him as one of the most famous kings in the history of Tamil Nadu.
