The AAP is in the midst of its biggest crisis since it was formed.  Arvind Kejriwal is in the direct line of fire, as he can be heard in a sting audio exhorting his party member to break the Congress and help him form the government in Delhi.

The crisis began with the former AAP MLA Rajesh Garg going public with a purported recording of a conversation with Kejriwal just before the dissolution of the Delhi assembly in November 20

The Delhi Chief Minister can be clearly heard asking the MLA to induce “six MLAs” of the Congress to break from the party and support AAP.

The exact words of Kejriwal (translated form Hindi) are: “Ask them (6 Congress MLAs) to break form the Congress, form a new party,  and then support us”.

The support of 6 breakaway Congress MLAs would have enabled the AAP to form a government in Delhi,as they would have had a majority in the 70-member assembly.

Their 28 MLAs would have been topped up by the breakaway Congress’ 6, the lone JD(U) member; plus the lone independent supporting. The BJP had 31 members in the assembly.

Watch the video of the sting below.

To top that, a senior member of the party Anjali Damani quit the party dramatically, citing the Kejriwal sting as the reason for her decision.

This is the Anjali Damani tweet announcing  her decision to quit.

Barkha Dutt twisted the knife.

AAP, of course, went into damage-control mode.

But the damage seems to have been done.
