The red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival is as much about fashion as it is about star power and, of late, Bollywood’s fashionistas have been making their own style statements there as well. See who got it right and who got the fashion police all worked up:
Sonam Kapoor in Ashi Studio & Elie Saab
B Town’s leading stylista Sonam Kapoor got it right with the Ashi Studio gown she wore to Chef Vikas Khanna’s book launch. The dress also got noticed for its plunging neckline and oomph quotient.
But the feathered Elie Saab gown she wore on the red carpet drew comparisons with Rihanna’s canary yellow cape and other unflattering comments. Twitter went to town, saying she looked like a haystack, among other things. Another Tweet said she could be wearing Suhel Seth or Meghnad Desai.
Aishwarya Rai wowed the crowd in an emerald Elie Saab gown with strategic transparent panels. While she was photographed endlessly on the red carpet, it was a photo of her showing off her dress to daughter Aaradhya, who accompanied her mom to Cannes, that set social media abuzz.
Sabyasachi is, of course, one of Ash’s favourite designers and for one Cannes outing she chose a floral jumpsuit by him. While some said it reminded them of a tablecloth, most fashion critics approved.
This was Kat’s first time at Cannes and the fashion police was watching closely. She passed the test, sporting different looks. First, it was a stylish monochrome Milly ensemble for a media interaction in which she showed off her toned abs.
Elie Saab was the red carpet choice of the Bollywood brigade and Katrina wore a scarlet gown by the designer. It was a marked departure from her usual subtle turnouts and worked wonderfully, too!
