Good news is a rare commodity in Afghanistan.

War torn, terror-hit, for decades now, Afghans are more accustomed to the sound of gunfire than of leather on willow.

That changed dramatically yesterday. And how.

Their thrilling victory over Scotland with just three balls to spare and just the last pair standing launched a thousand wild celebrations across Afghanistan. (also see video below)

This is Afghanistan’s first world cup win, in their very first appearance in cricket’s premier event.

So delirious was the joy that 6 people were injured in the celebratory firing to mark the seminal event in the capital city of Kabul. (see video below)

The Indian Prime Minister joined the cheering Afghans with a tweet congratulating them on the victory.
