Celebrity replacements in brand endorsements
Aamir Khan’s “intolerance” comments about India have cost him a lot. The actor faced a lot of backlash from many political and Bollywood personalities as well as customers on the Snapdeal mobile app, a brand which he endorses. And after being the face of the prestigious Incredible India campaign for a decade, Aamir has been replaced by Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra.
Let us have a look at some other celebrities who were replaced in brand endorsements for various reasons.
Kajol replaces Sushmita Sen in Olay: The brand manager cited “a lot of baggage” as a reason to replace Sushmita with Kajol. Kajol was also replaced by Kalki Koechlin recently as the brand managers wanted a younger face for the campaign.
Ranbir Kapoor replaces Shah Rukh Khan in TAG Heuer: Citing his immense success with the younger generation and people of India in general, Ranbir Kapoor replaced Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador of luxury watch brand TAG Heuer.
Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma replace Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra in Bru Coffee: After Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra allegedly broke off their relationship, actors Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma replaced the two as the face of Bru coffee. Actor Sidharth Malhotra has now replaced Imran due to Imran’s unsuccessful run at the Box Office.
Rana Daggubati replaces Saif Ali Khan in Royal Stag: After becoming a sensation overnight through his Bollywood film Dum Maaro Dum, Rana replaced Saif as the face of Royal Stag.
Saif Ali Khan replaces Fardeen Khan in Provogue: When Fardeen was accused of consuming and smuggling cocaine, he was immediately removed as the face of Provogue and was replaced by an actor with a ‘cleaner’ image – Saif Ali Khan.
Akshay Kumar replaces Salman Khan in Thums Up: After Salman was charged with a number of criminal offences, actor Akshay Kumar was made the face of Thums Up. However, Salman Khan was brought back recently after he was acquitted of most charges after almost a decade long relationship with Akshay.
