It was a heartbreaking scene at Munirabad railway station of Koppal district on Monday morning (Aug 22). The three-year-old boy was playing beside the bodies of his dead parents thinking that they were just asleep.

According to TOI report, when a few suspicious passengers questioned the boy, he told them that they were to visit Huligemma temple, once mom and dad woke up.  He was wandering around the station, waiting for them to get up.

When the passengers checked on the parents, they realized that the couple were dead and reported it to the railway police. When the boy innocently said that the parents were asleep, passengers and even the policemen couldn’t control their tears.

The police identified the deceased as Iranna Talawar, 50, and Manjula, 40, residents of Annigeri and now settled in Gadag. “We contacted some their relatives through the contact list on their mobile phone,” RS Kotagi, PSI, Gadag Railway Police.

Iranna and Manjula and their son Devaraj boarded the train to Koppal from Gadag. When they arrived at Munirabad station, they stayed there and slept on the platform. On Monday morning, the couple were found dead under mysterious circumstances.

“Prima facie, it looks like suicide case, but we are not sure whether they consumed poison or something else. We don’t know the exact reason for their death. It will be clear after we get the postmortem reports,” said Kotagi.

“We have handed over the bodies to the district hospital for postmortem and informed their relatives to take the boy. If no one comes forward, the boy will be handed over to the Child Protection Committee,” he added.
