Lawsuit filed by the boy claims the treatment he received violated both US civil rights laws and his 14th Amendment right to equal treatment under the law.

In the complaint he also alleges that Irving Independent School District has its own history of discrimination. It details a 2009 report which found that African-American students in the district faced racial discrimination.

The incident which led to the arrest of Mohamed had gathered solidarity from people around the world. After the boy’s innocence was proven, president Obama had even invited him to the White House.
