It’s Chocolate day : Confessions of a chocaholic.

It was meant to be.  A day to celebrate the most divine creation ever – Chocolate.

Long, long ago, and I really don’t know how long ago, a kind woman gently placed a small piece of chocolate in my tiny fingers. At first, I had no clue what that tiny brown thing was. I looked around and saw people popping it in their mouth; with a smile, of course. I curiously looked at my piece and carefully placed it in my mouth as well.

Boom! A sweet, rich and creamy explosion took place. I admit, it was an incredibly divine experience for my taste buds. From there began a journey of insanity, a journey of extreme sin, a journey of no return.

Women love it, men are choosy about it, but chocolate remains the most popular sweet of all time. If you’re an addict, I know you’ll relate totally to what chocolate means to me.

Chocolate is luxury

And by luxury, I don’t mean expensive chocolate. Chocolate is that piece of comfort which cannot match any other. The rush of bliss, the flood of joyful emotions the moment you eat some chocolate is unmatched. Chocolate makes me feel that this life is worth living. Be it the luscious and crunchy Ferrero Rocher or the creamy and rich Dairy Milk, be it the gooey and succulent chocolate fondant or the dark and deep hot chocolate fudge, every bite or spoonful of chocolate makes me feel on top of this world. It’s famously been said that water is the elixir of life; well for me, chocolate is the elixir of life!

Chocolate is soothing

You may not readily accept it, but can you honestly deny that a little bit of chocolate in any form does a world of good to your mood? How often have you craved for a hot cup of chocolate milk amidst chaos? Almost every time. For me that melting feeling is truly a moment of ecstasy, especially after a stressful day.

Chocolate is bittersweet

Mood swings are synonymous with women. Don’t we all too frequently go through those chains of unconnected and unexplainable emotions? Well, of course we do, and more often than not, our only friend is the humble piece of chocolate. That’s one side of the battle. The other side is even worse. On a diet, the struggle is far tougher. I always end up having a bittersweet moment when I see a bar of chocolate staring at me from a store counter. More often than I’d like to remember or admit, I do the calorie math in my head and still go ahead and buy it, because it is, after all, chocolate!

Chocolate is healthy

Yeah, I know chocolate is loaded with saturated fat. Thanks for reminding me! But guess what, recent studies have suggested that chocolate, especially the darker variety, is loaded with chemicals that lower the risk of heart disease. Obviously this doesn’t mean that you can just stuff yourself with chocolate. But as long as you eat it in moderation, it can truly be a miracle food. So next time you plan to start a new diet or give up something for Lent, think again before giving up on your favourite chocolate.

Chocolate is addiction

Many people associate chocolate with love; I would rather associate love with chocolate! For me chocolate is – a sweet treat, a bar filled with goodies, comfort food, delicious, luxurious, delightful, yummilicious, satisfying, tantalizing, alluring and of course DIVINE! Am I addicted to chocolate? Hell yeah!

It’s really hard to find a person who doesn’t like some kind of chocolate. Be it dark, white, milk, Belgian, Hershey, Lindt, a brownie or a pastry, we all have our own favourites.

My excuse for gorging on a bar of chocolate or a sinful chocolate brownie topped with hot chocolate sauce is – I tell the world around me – that ‘I do it only once in a while’.

Now, what’s yours??
