A Congress MLA in Bihar is in deep water after a sting operation exposed him on camera offering liquor to his guests despite the ban of liquor in Bihar.

The state government’s excise department registered FIRs against the Congress MLA Vinay Verma at the Patliputra police station in Patna and Shikarpur police station in West Champaran.

He has been booked under Sections 47 (A) and 53 (B) of the Bihar Excise (Amendment) Act 2016 which came into force once the ban was imposed.

According to a report in India Today, the police said that Verma had admitted to having stacked and offered liquor.

The footage shows the Congress MLA offering liquor to his guests at a posh hotel in Patna. The incident is quite humiliating for Nitish Kumar’s Grand Secular Alliance of which Congress too is a part.

However, the under attack Congress MLA claimed “conspiracy” behind the sting operation.

According to report in the Huffington Post, the state’s Congress president and education minister Ashok Choudhary said in Patna that they were made aware of the episode through media reports and that the party would issue a show cause to the concerned MLA.

“We will seek an explanation from the MLA about the incident and accordingly intimate high command with it,” Choudhary.

The MLA not only offers liquor to his guests but also agrees to give them company. He even talks about the liquor ban and says that nobody has the guts to enter his house, question or charge him.

This incident has certainly opened the doors to BJP to launch an attack on the Gran Secular Alliance.
