Conspiracy: A fake Facebook account being used to befriend people all around the world

A fake Facebook profile by the name “Madhu Shah” has been sending friend request to people all around the world, with the main targets being Indian users. In-fact, several accounts using the same name and photograph are being used to send friend requests to random people.

There are several theories surrounding these accounts and their purpose. One of them being, the accounts are being used to share links and advertisements. The more scary theory is that they are being used to steal personal data. Some are even suggesting that it might be a social experiment of some kind .

A Facebook user by the name Pawan Manghnani has put up a post warning people not to accept friend requests from these accounts and to immediately unfriend them, in-case they already have.  This post received widespread attention, after it was shared by several popular sites.

There have been a rise in fake profiles being used to send friend requests and it is advisable that you be cautious in accepting them. The first simple step you can take is to execute a reverse Google Image search on the profile picture. Chances are these belong to someone else.
