So Diego Costa is in the news again. And almost inevitably, so is Jose Mourinho. The Chelsea forward is notoriously physical and is known to get under the skin of the defenders. All that was on display in a predictably rugged League Cup semi-final on Tuesday between Chelsea and Liverpool, which the Blues won by 1-0 and qualified for the final with a 2-1 aggregate score line.

The two contentious incidents took place on either side of normal time when Costa appeared to have stamped on Emre Can and Martin Skrtel respectively. Although the Spanish international escaped with just a yellow card, Brendon Rodgers was incensed with the referee’s decision. In the post-match comments he slammed the Chelsea forward, saying he clearly should have been sent off. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho promptly jumped to his player’s defence, claiming the media had started a ‘campaign’ to vilify Costa.
