Police arrested a youth in the district of Malappuram in Kerala on Tuesday, after he allegedly posted comments in social media ‘insulting’ Lt. Col Niranjan E Kumar who died during the gun battle between security forces and Jihadists in Pathankot earlier this week.

Twenty four year old Anwar Sadhik from Kodur in Malappuram was picked by Kozhikode police following a social media uproar against the person who ‘berated’ the deceased security personnel of elite National Security Guards (NSG). Anwar was excoriated in Facebook on Monday after his comments on Niranjan surfaced.

Anwar, who called the deceased commando a nuisance, disagreed of the provision to give job and cash compensation to the widow of Nirajan.

“Hence there is one nuisance less. Now job and cash compensation to his wife. There is nothing on offer to the common man. One stinking Indian democracy (sic),” said Anwar’s comment under the picture of Niranjan.

The accused further went to on question the reason to respect the deceased army man. “Why Salutes? Have you ever given a thought about how somebody becomes a terrorist?…(sic)” he went on to say in another comment.

Police slammed section 124 (A) of Indian Penal Code against Sadhik for inciting hatred against government. If the charge is proven against in courts, it could even attract a life imprisonment sentence to the accused.

Though certain section of media suggested the ignorance of the person as a major reason for the embarrassment, investigating officials ruled out such possibilities.

“He cannot absolve himself saying that he was unaware of the consequences of the comments he made. He is an adult who can discern the outcomes of such acts,” told Shajahan, sub-inspector of police in Kozhikode. He added that Anwar will be produced before district court in Kozhikode on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, netizens across social media platforms on Tuesday continued to shower cuss words on the accused who has apparently berated the national hero.
