Disney Pixar’s new short film featuring an Indian-American boy Sanjay is a must-watch

Disney Pixar’s latest animated short film Sanjay’s Super Team is what all Indian-American kids would relate to instantly. The trailer will sure bring back your salad day memories. Sanjay is that boy who is happily lost in his world of superheroes just when his daddy’s puja bell wakes him up.

Arghhh!

The last thing that he would want is this divine intervention!

Sanjay loves to imagine Hindu deities as superheroes. But his love of western pop culture gets tough competition from his father’s traditional religious beliefs. You know, doing pujas religiously and being a ‘good boy’ while praying to god, et al.

Sanjay’s struggles to fit in with his American counterparts are well crafted by Disney Pixar.

This project is also the first Pixar film to be directed by an Indian-American. The eponymous character takes a cue from director Sanjay Patel himself whose formative years in California were quite like what is shown in the animated show.

Patel now lives in Oakland. He told in an interview: “If I could, I would go back to the 1980s and give my younger self this short…I want to normalize and bring a young brown boy’s story to the pop culture zeitgeist. To have a broad audience like Pixar’s see this … it is a big deal. I’m so excited about that.”

And we are all eyes too!
