A leather jacket worn by arguably the most famous mathematician in the world – Albert Einstein was sold for a staggering $144 ,000. Though it looks like the pioneer mathematician had some great fashion sense, according to reports, the auctioned jacket of his was way too smelly.

The firm which moderated the auction – Christie’s – describes the jacket of having a ‘pungent smell. Even though the reason for the smell can be attributed to Einstein’s habit of pipe smoking, it still cannot be ruled a proof conclusive.

Apparently, Einstein picked up the Levis-Strauss made jacket sometime during the mid 1930s in America.

Similarly, Einstein hardly parted with the jacket and ‘Einstein wore it all the time — a fact mentioned in the memoirs of fellow scientist Leopold Infeld, who worked with him at Princeton University.

The jacket’s new, unnamed owner is its first since Einstein died in 1955.
