F1 legend Michael Schumacher is reportedly out of coma and has left the hospital in Greoble, where here was admitted after a skiing accident.

The 45-year-old has kept in a medically induced coma, after suffering a severe head injury from the accident in the French Alps on 29 December.

Medically induced coma is process of sedating a patient in order to shut down brain functions and to lower blood flow and pressure. The head injury had left Michael with a swelling in the brain. The doctors kept him in the coma state to reduce the swelling.

The F1 legend will now be moved to Lausanne university hospital in Switzerland, where he will  have his own private accommodation and will undergo rehabilitation under the watchful eyes of a team of specialists.

Neurosurgeon Tony Belli told the BBC that rehabilitation from this sort of injury could take months or years.

“We know that some people can spend three, four years in rehabilitation,” he said. “It depends very much on the severity of the injury, how young and fit they are.”
