1. Former members of AAP, under the banner of AAP Volunteer Action Manch (AVAM), allege that the Arvind Kejriwal’s party had indulged in a “funding scam”.

2. According to AVAM, AAP received four donations of Rs 50 lakh each from “bogus companies”. Citing entries on the AAP website, they claimed that “all these four donations of Rs 50 lakh each were received on April 5, 2014 at 12:00 AM”.

3. “The donation was given in 2014 but the company has not earned a single rupee or done any business. Where do they get their money from,” asked AVAM member Gopal Goyal.

4. Goyal claimed that one Hem Prakash Sharma, resident of D-276, Ramlila Park, Ganga Vihar, is the director of 11 companies cited on the AAP website, but “lives in a very dilapidated house”. He questioned how he would have the resources to hand over Rs 50 lakh as donations to AAP.

5. The allegations were taken up by the BJP at their party headquarters, with the party fielding Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goel and Shazi Ilmi to take on AAP.

6. Social media went into overdrive with #AAPFundingScam on top of the Twitter chart in India — and amazingly trending fourth worldwide.

7. AAP has vehemently denied the allegations — party leader Ashutosh attributing them to the ‘dirty games department” of the BJP, saying “AAP is ready to face any inquiry into the allegations”.

8. The allegations seem set to take off into a full-fledged political battle, with just four days to go for polling day.
