Haila! An original Mumbai Pav Bhaji recipe that will leave you craving for more

The word Pav Bhaji itself leaves millions salivating. This superhit street food from Mumbai has over the years spread its wings in different parts of the country. However, those who’ve tasted the original Mumbai Pav Bhaji miss the aromas and flavours from time-to-time and wish to emulate this recipe at home.

People have tried different ways of making this yummilicious food, but not many have come close to the original. For all those who love cooking and want to get a taste of the authentic Mumbai Pav Bhaji, here’s the original recipe.

Ingredients

Tomato – 4
Boiled Potato Small – 8
Green Pepper – 1
Onion – 1
Frozen Peas – 1/2 cup
Ginger Garlic Paste – 2 tbsp
Chilli Powder – 6 tsp, divided
Pav Bhaji Masala – 6 tsp, divided
Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
Kasuri Methi – 2 tsp
Hing a little
Coriander Leaves –  handful
Lemon Juice – 1 tbsp
Butter – 4 tbsp, divided
Oil – 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Water upto 2 cups, divided

Method of Preparation

1. Heat oil in a flat pan. Add finely chopped green peppers to it. Sprinkle a little water if needed and saute it for couple of minutes.

2. Add ginger garlic paste and finely chopped tomatoes. Cook till the mix starts to come together.

3. Add mashed potatoes and peas along with 2 tbsp of Butter, 5 tsp Chilli Powder, 5 tsp Pav Bhaji Masala. Mix well and keep mashing.

4. In another pan, add a generous dollop of butter. Once hot, add finely chopped onions, 1 tsp Pav Bhaji Masala, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp Chilli Powder, 2 tsp Kasuri Methi and salt to taste.

5. Add this to the vegetable mixture along with salt. Add 1 tbsp butter and mix well till the Bhaji is ready to be served.

6. Add some lemon juice for taste.
