Strange are the ways of the new crop of civil servants. Ernakulam District Collector M G Rajamanickam has got into trouble with the Government for posting a photograph wearing his wife Nishanthini’s police uniform on the Facebook. Nishanthini IPS is currently the Commissioner of Police of Thrissur district. The photograph showed Nishanthini in civil dress and Rajamanickam in police uniform. The snaps went viral on social media, with some claiming his action was against the law. The photograph later appeared in a news magazine too.

Soon, a civic-minded citizen petitioned the State Government, accusing Rajamanickam of misusing police uniform. The Government subsequently directed Home Secretary Nalini Netto to conduct an inquiry. After the inquiry which found him guilty, a caution notice was issued to the Collector for violating the Kerala Police Act. Rajamanikyam has since written to the Government requesting to withdraw the action against him.

In Kerala’s northern district of Kozhikode, a young lady IPS officer is in the news, again for the wrong reason. Assistant Commissioner of Police Merin Joseph posted her picture with popular south actor Nivin Pauly of ‘Premam’ fame on Facebook and the image went viral in quick time with thousands of ‘likes’ and ‘share’ to the post.

Her post was titled “With Nivin Pauly…The current sensation in Kerala”. The police officer and the actor were both guests at an event in a college in Ernakulam. She is now facing criticism for uploading a photo taken when she was in uniform.

In her clarification, she said that the picture was taken by Congress lawmaker Hibi Eden on her request and with the actor’s consent during a lighter moment of laughter over a shared joke. She took to Facebook to lambast the media, claiming that “non-issues are being sensationalized.

“I was a guest and had no official duties… There was a huge gap during the event, the Home Minister had already left, and other guests on stage had moved aside, what am I as a guest with no other duties supposed to do? Jump off the stage? Stand in attention saluting the audience? … The media channels which pander to such cheapness and voyeurism, have my pity,” she said in her Facebook post.

As folomojo.com reported earlier, Kozhikode District Collector N Prasanth had got into trouble with local politicians for his Facebook activism. The Collector used to run popular campaigns on civic issues on Facebook which were viewed with suspicion by politicians. After verbal attacks by some politicians, he is now lying low on social media.
