After Colonel Mahadik died, Swati decided to and join the Indian armed forces and subsequently prepared diligently for her entrance exams and SSB interview.

To everyone’s surprise she passed with the examinations and  interview with flying colors.

She is a mother of two children, Kartikee and Swaraj, aged 11 and 6 respectively and has a degree from Savitribai Phule University.

Swati will be joining the Officer’s Training Academy in Chennai for an 11-month course. If all goes well she will be commissioned in the Army as a lieutenant. But she is not joining for the money or job security.

““It was not that I needed more security. Santosh had provided all that. I and the children would have been well cared for. But I needed something to live for, which would align with my husband’s goals,” she was quoted by The Indian Express.

She was heavily inspired by her husband who martyred for the country.

“Santosh used to say that satisfaction is important in life. The word he used was ‘trupti’. I guess that’s what I am feeling now. I had a great husband, I have two beautiful children, and will now wear the uniform my husband wore — I have nothing more to ask of life,” she added while speaking to The Indian Express.

Mrs. Mahadik, you truly is an inspiration
