It was a proud moment for India when 100-year-old Man Kaur won a gold medal at the American Masters Games 2016.

Kaur, who participated in the 100 meters race, took a minute and a half to cross the finish line and win the gold medal. She was the only female contestant in her age category at the competition for older athletes.

As she crossed the finish line in Vancouver, her competitors who were 20 to 30 years younger to her cheered on.

Kaur’s son Gurudev Singh, 78 also participated in the unique international event, which is organised for athletes over the age of 30

“Whenever she wins, she returns to India and tells everybody about the medals she won in different countries. “Winning makes her happy,” said Gurudev.

Kaur started running at the age of 93, after her son encouraged her to do so. “I asked her ‘You have no problem, no knee problem, no heart problem, you should start running’ ”, Gurudev recalled.

Kaur has now won more than 20 medals in Masters Games across the globe. Her secret to being in good health is daily exercise and good diet. Reportedly, she never eats fried food and is a complete vegetarian.
