In a new twist to the India’s Daughter imbroglio, Nirbhaya’s friend Avanindra Pandey, who was with her on the night she was brutally raped, has called the BBC documentary “a fake”.

Pandey, eyewitness to the barabarism on the night of December 12, 2012,  told a leading TV channel that the events recounted in the documentary were contrary to facts.

Pandey also backed the NDA government’s ban on the film, accusing the filmaker Leslee Udwin of handling the issues without sensitivity.

“The documentary is unbalanced as the victim’s viewpoint is missing. The facts are hidden and the content is fake. Only Jyoti and I know what happened on that night and the documentary is far from truth,” Pandey told the TV channel.

In the TV report, Pandey says that “a controversy was created unnecessarily and was sensationalised. The documentary made fun of emotions and questioned the law and order situation in our country.”

“The documentary has dented country’s image and questioned law and order situation. The documentary showed that any individual can enter the Central Jail of our country and can interview a criminal,” Pandey said.

He also said that he himself was approached to appear in the documentary but was not mentally prepared due to his ill health and his doubts about the filmmaker’ s motives.
