Despite Instagram’s strict ‘no pornography’ rule, users have found found ways to post videos on the media sharing platform. Blogger and hacker Jed Ismael writes in a blog post that he discovered over a million videos with non-English hashtags, specifically Arabic hashtags.
According to the post, Instagram had banned certain explicit hashtags in English from appearing in search results. Though Instagram had blocked basic Arabic hashtags that were used to post explicit material—a year after Ismael’s discovery—he believes that users now get through filters using longer Arabic hashtags.
What’s most alarming is that the content isn’t age restricted unlike pornographic websites that display warnings before granting access.
