The Michigan State Senate passed a bill that effectively bans all forms of sodomy and oral sex—gay and non-gay—making the acts punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Surprisingly, Michigan is not alone in this archaic and oppressive legislation. Idaho, Utah, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana too had earlier criminalized consensual oral and anal sex.
Michigan’s anti-sodomy law also bans bestiality, group sex between consenting humans and sex with animals.
The passage of this bill reportedly disregards the supreme court’s ruling of 2003 that haddeclared sodomy bans unconstitutional.
“A person who commits the abominable and detestable crime against nature either with mankind or with any animal is guilty of a felony,” reads SB 219.
