Kannur airport to host first flight’s trial landing on Feb 29

As construction activities of Kannur International Airport  is nearing completion in Mattannur, the first trial landing of a flight here is expected to be held on February 29.

For Oommen Chandy government, the successful landing of a flight in Mattannur will be yet another golden feather on its cap in the run up to the state assembly elections.

Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) has floated tenders to outsource event management for the public function in connection with the first flight landing there. The chief minister and other cabinet officials are expected to attend the public function on February 29.

According to reports, construction activities for facilitating the first landing are fast-progressing. Construction of the 2,400-metre runway has already been completed. Similarly, 65 percent work of terminal and 80 percent work of flight hangars have been completed. Nearly 1600 workers are currently involved in the construction activities of the airport.

Completion of the activities are progressing with an aim to start commercial flight services by September this year.
