The rescue team found Sepoy Vijay Kumar’s body buried under 12 feet of snow on the third day of the rescue operation after an avalanche hit an army post in Kargil. Both the soldiers who were on surveillance duty at the time were swept away by the snowslide—caused by a mild earthquake.

The team had found Sepoy Sujit, the other soldier on duty, on the first day of the rescue operation. He is on his way to full recovery.

The Indian Army will move the jawan’s body to his hometown where the cremation ceremony will be take place with full military honours.

Back in February, 10 soldiers were killed when an avalanche hit an army camp in the northern part of the Siachen Glacier.
