In form Indian cricketer Virat Kohli was named the captain of the ICC World T20 men’s XI on Monday. Indian veteran seamer Ashish Nehra who scalped five wickets is also featured in the list for his consistent contribution. However, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni failed to find a place in the team.

It is the second consecutive time that an Indian has been named as the captain of the all-star XI. Dhoni was declared the skipper of the earlier team after India reached the finals of the World T20 in Bangladesh in 2014.

Four Indians were named in the earlier line-up. Only two have made it to the team this year.

Kohli was declared the ‘Man of the Tournament’ for his ‘sublime form’. He spearheaded the Indian batting attack—he scored 273 runs with an average of 136.50, a strike rate of 146.77 including three 50 plus scores.

“Although I’m disappointed that we were not able to make it through to the final and win the ICC World Twenty20 title on home soil, I’m proud to be named player of the tournament,” Kohli said in a statement as seen on BCCI’s official website.

“As a team, we have all loved the experience of playing in this event in front of big, passionate home crowds and I’m pleased the tournament in India has been successfully staged.

And I’d like to add my congratulations to the West Indies men’s and women’s squads for their successes,” he added.

The right-handed batsman hit 29 boundaries and 5 sixes in all. Second in the list of highest run scorers is Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal who scored 295 runs.

A select group of former cricketers and commentators picked the men’s eleven based on the players’ performances in the tournament.
