What’s an Indian festival without a few big films hitting the screens, right? Here’s what awaits Malayalam audiences this Onam season:

Loham

The Mohan Lal-starrer hit the screens ahead of the other Onam releases. The film by Ranjith revolves around the ingenious ways of the gold-smuggling rackets in Kerala. Mohan Lal plays a cabbie who gets caught up in the action, while Andrea Jeremiah plays his passenger, a woman who’s trying to find her customs officer husband who’s gone missing.

Utopiayile Rajavu

If there’s a Mohan Lal film for Onam, most likely there’s a Mammootty-starrer, too. This year, it’s Utopiayile Rajavu, directed by Kamal.  Described as a satirical comedy, the film is set in a fictional village and tells the story of Swathantran, a man caught in an identity crisis. The movie also stars Jewel Mary, Joy Matthew, Nandu and Sunil Sugatha, among others.
