It was a proud moment for Indian cricket fans, when the Indian team beat New Zealand in Kolkata to reach the top of the test table. It was a prouder moment for fast bowler Mohammed Shami who performed exceptionally well in the test match, despite his 14-months-old daughter being in the ICU.

It was during the 2nd day of the match, when Shami’s daughter Aira was rushed to the hospital, suffering from breathing problems. While the brave cricketer was worried about his daughter, he did not forget his duty to his country and team, and went on to take 6 wickets in the match.

India went on to win the Test by 178 runs and took a 2-0 lead in the 3 match series against New Zealand. While Shami’s perseverance and commitment to the team was being applauded, more good new was on the way for the fast bowler – by the end of the test match, his daughter had made a full recovery.

“My captain had given me huge inspiration every night after i returned from the hospital. so, i am extremely thankful to him and also thankful to the mates who also gave me belief that my daughter must get cured by the time test ends,” said Shami.

Indian Test team captain Virat Kohli commended Shami’s performance and dedication.

“Shami fed off the energy of the eden crowd and bowled 12 more balls for the team. we would have been waking up at 6:30 again had it not happened,” said Kohli.
