Just over two years ago, on the night of December 16, 2012, a young woman was brutally raped in the national capital. That shocking incident became a turning point for many in India.

The media stepped up reportage of violence against women and girls and several protests demanding an improvement in the law and order situation have taken place since then.

But have things really changed? The perpetrators of such brutal acts may be brought to court more often than before, but sexual and other kinds of gender violence continue to plague Indian society.

Here’s one such shocking incident that shows how women in India now not only have to deal with devils on earth, but also with monsters under water!

A 23-year-old woman was recently molested underwater during her first scuba experience with Karnataka’s Dreamz Diving. In her blog post, she discreetly narrates her experience of being molested 12 metres below sea level by her own 46-year-old scuba diver, and how all she could do was signal ‘OK’.

In her own words:

The location of the dive was Shiroor beach, Murudeshwar; the dive was undertaken on 26/01/2015, somewhere around 1.30 PM.

Following the incident, this young girl mustered the courage to question the scuba diver in front of her friends and his colleagues. She also revealed that he had touched her inappropriately while they were under water. Later, after a lot of cross-questioning, the scuba diver confessed to his act of molestation.

We leave you with these words from the victim’s blog that will haunt you for a lifetime!

Today, I’m 23 and I know that monsters do exist. They not only exist but they lurk in every corner of every street. And every second, they threaten the safety, dignity and self-respect of millions of girls around the world, just like me. They catch us in vulnerable, helpless situations and take complete advantage of us. Also, they come in different forms, be it as a passenger of the Indigo airlines or my SCUBA diving instructor.
