For much of the first innings, it seemed like a fairy-tale day for Brendon Taylor, who scored a stunning century to take his team to a smashing total against India. But the finish wasn’t exactly ‘Taylormade’ as Zimbabwe dropped catches, bowled lose balls and succumbed to pressure against their much-experienced opponents.

Aside from witnessing a thrilling chase, we also saw quite a few records broken during India’s last group encounter against Zimbabwe. Here are a few notable ones.

1. A personal milestone for MSD

Dhoni moved above Clive Lloyd in the list of captains with most successive wins in the World Cup with this victory, his 10th including the previous four in 2011. Ricky Ponting still remains way above everyone else with 24 straight WC wins as Australia’s captain. This was also India’s 15 straight ODI win in ICC tournaments (Including the 2011 World Cup, the 2013 Champions Trophy and this tournament).

2. Brendon Taylor signs off with a hundred

Playing his last game for Zimbabwe, Taylor became the first man from his country to score back-to-back World Cup hundreds. He also became the first Zimbabwe player to score more than 400 runs in a World Cup campaign.

3. Shami became joint highest wicket-taker of the tournament

It lasted only for an hour or so before Australia’s Mitch Starc took 4 wickets against Scotland and took his tally to 16 for the tournament. However, Mohammed Shami is only 1 behind the Aussie.

4. Only team to bowl out oppositions in all group games this year

No other team has managed to get 60 wickets in the group stages. Kiwis have bowled out their opposition 5 out of 6 times. It’s quite remarkable coming from a team considered to be one of the weakest bowling attacks going into the tournament. Josh Davey and Trent Boult are also on 15 wickets.

5. Ashwin’s most expensive figures

A forgettable record, but a record nonetheless. Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been in such splendind form in this tournament had a bad outing against Zimbabwe, conceding 75 runs in his 10 overs. His previous worst was against West Indies in 2011, when he conceded 74 in his 10 overs.

6. A record run chase for India
